ktirio2Hellenic Auctions, the premier Auction house based in northern Greece, was founded in Thessaloniki in December of the year 2000.

As the brain-child of IFAA-certified and Fine Art Trade Guild member Thanos Evangelinos, it is part of a cluster of expertise that once included West London’s Academy Auctioneers & Valuers and Logotechnis Antiques & Art in Greece.

Hellenic Auctions has come a long way from its beginnings. Since its first sale by auction in December of 1999, the company organised a multitude of cultural events, exhibitions and auctions. It is also well-regarded as a strong contributor to its local community. Please see What They Say About Us for further information on this topic.

We are proud of the exceptional Art Deco building that hosts us, and of the vibrant historical centre of Thessaloniki close to St. Sophia square, where we are headquartered.  We are equally proud of representing and specialising in Greek and Phil-Hellenic fine art produced in the 19th and 20th centuries: a period which, in our opinion,  is too- often overlooked in favour of classical Antiquity.

Our acclaimed biannual “Greek Sale” auctions are a meeting point for both keen cognoscenti and budding aficionados, who come from around the world to view the rich variety of styles, influences and signatures in our chambers.

About our Founder

euagThanos Evangelinos
is an expert fine art appraiser, as certified by the New York based IFAA (International Fine Art Appraisers), and a member of the British “Fine Art Trade Guild” (est.1847). He has been active in the field for over 30 years, and finds it profoundly rewarding to devote himself to the artistic niche that long-ago captured his heart.

“Art is many things; it is an investment, certainly, and a thing of beauty to proudly display. It is some person’s life work, carefully matured through the prism of a certain time and a certain place. In a globalized world, Art is the most important token of local greatness. My respect for this is why I founded Hellenic Auctions, instead of looking to join a broader project.”
