‘Mermaid II’ 1974
Signed dated & numbd. 3/6 lithograph 106×37 cm
€ 500 – 800
Departing from her familiar subject matter, the artist deals here with a folklore-pagan theme. Morphologically the work follows well-known patterns with wide surfaces and a tall slender neck. The mermaid symbolically steps on the snake and holds the ship she has saved, while the sun, the moon and a star are present. Possible sources of inspiration for the artist may be folk myths, such as the mermaid of Alexander the Great, which are intertwined with others or even with events from the historical reality and religious worship.
