‘The boss of the bosses’ 1979

Signed oil on canvas 60×80 cm

€ 7.000 – 9.000

Dynamic impressive work by the subversive visionary Gaitis in which the artist negotiates the recognizable form, something he often and prolifically was preoccupied by. He places his caricatural forms in a geometric enclosure redefining them as a means of irony and social critique. The suggestive central and oversized form of the “boss” becomes a symbol meant to convey his narratives even as its color contrasts with the black and white and, on a smaller scale, with the crowd of shaped forms in the field of his painting surface symbolizing the successful reduction of the narratives. The suffocating multitude undifferentiated and representative of identical clustered “people” with blank expressionless faces flattened by the inexorable standardization and geometry is the “product” of uniformity and consumption, the control mechanisms of the modern age. In contrast, the dominant form displays the phenomenon of absolute mastery and domination as well as the imposition of commands and stereotypes.
