A particularly tender and simultaneously dynamic creation from the 1950s by Gaitis, exploring a geometric ideal that had previously appeared in his sculptures and would later appear in his drawings and oils. This work was created during a period when Gaitis played a significant role in the intellectual life of Athens, introducing the concept of “new demons”. Forms originating from psychoanalytic surrealism result in a personal and unique surrealistic idiom. The work masterfully brings together strong contours and dynamic lines to create cohesive volumes. Esotericism, distortion and poetic dimension of the form touching existential concerns, all of which seen through the key ingredient of Gaitis’s temperament: sensitivity. Interiority, distortion, poetic dimension of form touching on existential concerns, all seen through the key ingredient of Gaitis’s temperament: sensitivity.
