A wonderful, unique landscape seen through the eyes of Maleas’ soul; the artist is one of the most important post-impressionist Greek painters of the 20th century. In his signature style, he makes nature into a subject of poetic interpretation, and as such depicts personal experience, through an expressionist lens with symbolist accents, which adds in an intense sense of the ephemeral. Shapes are created through colour, with minimization of realistic elements and masterful, warm and earthy tonal gradations which alternate with cool greens, blues and a particular purple to render the tree trunks. Here, one can observe a synthetic regeneration of nature; anti-naturalistic colors-emotions enclose the warm vital energy of the world in their tactile state.
