Bouzianis Georgios (1885-1959)
The Expressionist
- Bouzianis studied under Roilos, Lytras, Volanakis and Geraniotis, before moving to Münich to study under Seitz.
- Originally a noted expressionist, the artist was hit hard by the decline of the genre and the rise of Nazism; he spent the years between 1934 and 1949 living in obscure poverty, until an exhibition at the “Parnassos” returned him to the spotlight.
- He participated in many exhibitions subsequently, most importantly the Biennale of Venice and the International Guggenheim Competition in 1950 and 1956 respectively.
